Our mission and vision
Our Mission
The Bitterroot Valley Youth Sports Foundation exists to improve the quality of life throughout the Bitterroot Valley by providing safe, affordable, year-round opportunities for recreation, athletics, wellness, and community connection.
We are committed to creating a welcoming environment where youth can develop through sports, families can spend time together, seniors can stay active, and organizations such as schools, the Boys & Girls Club, Special Olympics, and other community groups have a place to grow and serve others.
Our mission is to build more than a recreation center—we are building a lasting community asset that promotes health, opportunity, inclusion, and lifelong relationships for generations to come.
Our Vision
Our vision is to create the Bitterroot Valley's first dedicated indoor Community Recreation & Sports Center—a place where every generation belongs.
Rather than waiting years to make an impact, we are taking a practical, community-first approach. Phase One is to lease an existing facility, allowing us to begin serving families immediately while establishing programs, partnerships, and financial sustainability. This first facility will demonstrate the need for a permanent indoor recreation center, build community trust, and create momentum for the future.
As our Foundation grows, we will launch a capital campaign to build a permanent, Foundation-owned Community Recreation & Sports Center designed to serve the Bitterroot Valley for decades. The equipment, relationships, and experience developed during the leased phase will transition into our permanent home, ensuring every investment made today continues to benefit our community tomorrow.
From youth sports and senior wellness to nonprofit partnerships, educational programs, tournaments, and community events, our vision is to create a place where people of all ages can play, learn, connect, and thrive.
Building Opportunities. Strengthening Community. Investing in Future Generations.

The pressing challenge in Bitterroot Valley
The Bitterroot Valley boasts a vibrant and expanding youth sports community, yet the availability of indoor recreation space has failed to keep pace with the increasing needs of local families, athletes, schools, and organizations.
Currently, many youth programs contend with limited gym access, overcrowded practice schedules, late evening practice times for younger athletes, restricted tournament venues, seasonal interruptions during winter, and extensive travel for additional opportunities. As youth sports participation continues to grow, families often find themselves competing for scarce indoor facilities. Coaches and organizations diligently work to adapt schedules, but there simply isn't enough dedicated indoor space throughout the valley.
Simultaneously, there is a growing demand for affordable recreation, safe year-round youth activities, community wellness programs, indoor walking and recreation options for seniors and families, and flexible multi-use spaces.

A brighter future for youth sports
Should this vision come to fruition, we believe the future of youth sports and community recreation in the Bitterroot Valley will be transformed in the most positive ways imaginable.
We envision a future where young athletes consistently access high-quality indoor facilities, and families are no longer burdened by overcrowded schedules or late-night practices. Local teams can practice, compete, and forge stronger bonds closer to home, with more children participating regardless of financial barriers. Coaches and organizations will have the necessary space to expand their programs, and seniors and community members will enjoy year-round recreation and wellness opportunities.
We foresee a facility that becomes a true community hub—a place where youth sports, recreation, mentorship, and community connection converge under one roof. In the future, we hope to witness packed gyms filled with local athletes and families, regional tournaments injecting energy and economic activity into the valley, and thriving partnerships with schools, non-profits, and various community groups.

Our strategic approach to impact
The Bitterroot Valley Youth Sports Foundation is dedicated to forging a lasting solution that generates more opportunities for youth athletes, families, and the entire community. To bring this vision to life, our foundation is concentrating on several critical areas:
Expanding indoor recreation space
Our primary objective is to facilitate the development of a dedicated indoor sports and recreation facility capable of supporting year-round activities for the Bitterroot Valley. This space is designed to provide additional court access, practice and training areas, tournament hosting capabilities, recreation and wellness programs, and flexible multi-use community space.
Supporting youth development
We believe sports can profoundly shape young lives by instilling leadership, teamwork, discipline, confidence, and accountability. Our foundation aims to support programs that foster both athletic and personal growth in a positive environment.
Creating community partnerships
Strong community partnerships are vital to our success. We actively collaborate with local schools, businesses, and organizations to maximize our impact and ensure our efforts are aligned with the community's needs.
"This mission is profoundly personal. It stems from witnessing firsthand the struggles local families, athletes, coaches, and organizations face in securing consistent indoor recreation space in the Bitterroot Valley."
